Apollo Optical Systems would like to congratulate our founder Dr. G. Michael Morris who has been elected into the National Academy of Engineering!  Dr. Morris founded Apollo Optical Systems in 2003 and is a pioneer in the design, manufacture, and supply of precision polymer-based optical components across the life sciences, automotive and tactical industries.

According to the National Academy of Engineering, “Election… is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature” and to “the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.”

Dr. Morris holds 27 U.S, patents, and has published more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, 3 book chapters and numerous conference proceedings. He is the recipient of the Optical Society of America (OSA, now Optica) Joseph Fraunhofer/Robert M. Burley Prize; the Rochester Engineering Society’s Leo H. East Engineer of the Year Award; the Rochester Chamber of Commerce Civic Award for Science and Technology; the Optica Stephen D. Fantone Distinguished Service Award; the Optica David Richardson Medal; and the New York Photonics Entrepreneurship Award. He is also a Past President of Optica (2003), a Honorary Member of Optica, Rochester Section, and a Fellow of Optica and the International Society of Optics and Photonics (SPIE).

“Mike is a pioneer in optics industry” said Don Ehinger, CEO of Apollo Optical Systems, “beyond being internationally recognized for his expertise in the space, he has excelled in business, research and academia.”

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Morris on this incredible and well-deserved honor.  We are proud to celebrate you and your legacy every day in the work we do at Apollo. For the official announcement, visit https://www.nae.edu/312025/NAENewClass2024
